The Cars of Miami Vice
Intro the Ferrari Testarossa to Miami Vice: When the new model Testarossa came out on the market, the producers decided it was time to update Crockett’s car to something with a little more panache…a real Ferrari. Two original, latest-models Ferrari Testarossa’s were offered to Miami Vice, one to be used and one as a back-up. The cars were originally black, but were later painted white because....yes…white looked better on film, especially during night scenes. What about the stunts? No, the real Ferrari’s were not used in the stunts. The producers hired Carl Roberts of the Roberts Motor Co. to build a Testarossa look-alike that would be used a safety-oriented stunt car for Miami Vice. The stunt car was made from a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, with a collector value of $30,000 and chopped it apart. Roberts designed fiberglass body panels from photos and from parts he salvaged from a Testarossa in a wrecking yard. The stunt car and original Testarossa were as identical as possible. |
